How do you get your economic stimulus refund by direct deposit?

I am not getting a refund this year for my federal taxes, so how can I get my economic stimulus refund ($600) by direct deposit instead of a mailed check? Should I put my bank account routing number on the 1040 form even though I am not getting a regular refund?

  3. Starting in May, the Treasury will begin sending economic stimulus payments to more than 130 million households. To receive a payment, taxpayers must have a valid Social Security number, $3,000 of income and file a 2007 federal tax return. IRS will take care of the rest. Eligible people will receive up to $600 ($1,200 for married couples), and parents will receive an additional $300 for each eligible child younger than 17. Millions of retirees, disabled veterans and low-wage workers who usually are exempt from filing a tax return must do so this year in order to receive a stimulus payment.

if you filed with the IRS your regular tax forms direct payment for your refund you will get it that way too

  4. Yes. If they have that info they will direct deposit anyway.

I’ve read a bunch on it.

  5. Yes, put the bank info on your 1040. Otherwise, you are all but guaranteed to get a paper check in the mail. I am surprised we still use those things.

  6. You can do that if you haven’t send your return yet. If they see your account information on the 1040, they will send it direct deposit.

  7. Well the if you were going to receive a refund through direct deposit the stimulus would be direct deposited as well. I would try to put your routing and account number on the 1040 anyway. That will give them the information needed and I think it will be fine.

  8. That won’t do.
Written in routing can be an error or fraud.

    You will receive a check.
Don’t worry, the bank will honor it.

  9. I heard on the news that if you recieved your annual federal refund by direct deposit then thats how you will recieve your economic stimulus refund check. It would be my guess that your check will come by snail mail.

  10. If you have filled out any tax forms at all, even if you are not getting a refund, you can still put your bank info in the spaces provided. It’s my understanding that each person who has had their bank info on their tax forms for this year will receive their stimulus check via direct deposit, just like the regular tax refunds.

You could also email or call the IRS directly, and ask them if you’re still unsure what to do.

  11. Never give anyone your bank account number that you do not know!!!!!! Just because they work for the government, does not mean they are trustworthy! Don’t be stupid!
The government does not do that anyway. They don’t have the time to take care of everyone’s personal needs. You will have to deposit it yourself. If you can’t do it…have a friend do it for you! If you want, give it to me and I will take care of it for you! Didn’t think so. So why should you trust someone else with your bank account? Lesson learned!

  12. This is directly from the IRS website

    A. The Treasury Department will make payments starting in early May. Early filers, especially those who choose direct deposit, will get their payments first.

If the IRS finishes processing your return by April 15, you will most likely get your payment based on this schedule. If you choose direct deposit, this means your payment will arrive on May 2, May 9 or May 16. If you do not choose direct deposit, checks will be mailed between mid-May and mid-July. For this initial batch of stimulus payments, the payment date will be based on the last two digits of your Social Security Number. [Updated 3/19/08]

So your 2007 fed tax refund had to go direct deposit , otherwise you get a check in the mail.

  13. Yes, put your routing info on your federal return.

Some software programs won’t accept routing info if you aren’t getting a refund. If that happens, you’ll either have to use some different software, mail in your return, or just get a paper check for the stimulus amount.
